Guide specification, accredited test evidence and technical documentation for architects, facade consultants and main contractors.

Why This Page Exists

Everything you need to write us into the spec.

On a facade package the specification is written long before a subcontractor is appointed. This page gives design consultants the evidence and the wording to do that — without a sales conversation first.

At a Glance
  • Eight accredited tests, all passed, on one full-scale specimen
  • Air leakage measured 5× better than ASTM E283 permits
  • GCC Patent GC-0011850, valid to 2037, all six member states
  • Installed from inside the building — no scaffolding or cradles
  • Facade stays off the project critical path

Note to the specifier. Performance values quoted below are the accredited results for the tested specimen. Project performance must be confirmed by project-specific calculation against your wind loads, glass make-up and elevation geometry.
PART 1 — GENERAL
1.1  SUMMARY
  • Section includes: aluminium curtain wall system, factory-finished and supplied pre-sized to installation dimensions, complete with glazing, gaskets, integrated drainage, anchors and perimeter closures.
  • Related sections: cast-in-place concrete and structural steel for anchorage substrate; sealants; glass and glazing where specified separately.
1.2  REFERENCES
  • ASTM E283 — Air leakage through exterior windows, curtain walls and doors.
  • ASTM E331 — Water penetration by uniform static air pressure difference.
  • ASTM E330 — Structural performance by uniform static air pressure difference.
  • AAMA 501.1 — Water penetration using dynamic pressure.
  • EN ISO 10077-1 and -2 — Thermal performance of windows, doors and shutters.
  • EN ISO 6946 — Building components: thermal resistance and transmittance.
  • AAMA 2605 — High performance organic coatings on architectural aluminium.
1.3  PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Air infiltration: when tested to ASTM E283 at 300 Pa, air leakage shall not exceed 24.95 m³/hr for the tested specimen area. [The UCS system was measured at 4.82 m³/hr — more than five times better than this limit.]
  • Static water penetration: no uncontrolled water on the interior face when tested to ASTM E331 at a static pressure of not less than 720 Pa for 15 minutes.
  • Dynamic water penetration: no uncontrolled water on the interior face when tested to AAMA 501.1 at not less than 720 Pa with a wind generator.
  • Structural performance: when tested to ASTM E330 at design wind load, deflection shall not exceed the limits set by the project structural criteria, with no permanent deformation.
  • Structural proof load: no failure of any component when tested to ASTM E330 at 1.5 × design load.
  • Sequence: air and water tests shall be repeated after structural loading on the same specimen and shall be re-passed.
  • Thermal transmittance: frame and edge-seal U-values shall be determined by two-dimensional numerical simulation to EN ISO 10077-1 and -2 with boundary conditions per EN ISO 6946. Project U-values shall be confirmed by project-specific calculation.
1.4  SUBMITTALS
  • Product data for each system component.
  • Shop drawings: elevations, typical and non-typical sections, anchorage details, movement joints, interfaces with adjacent construction.
  • Structural calculations for the system under project wind loads, signed by a qualified engineer.
  • Thermal calculation for the specified configuration.
  • Accredited test reports from an ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory for the test sequence in 1.3.
  • Samples: finish samples on the specified alloy; a corner assembly sample on request.
  • Warranty documentation.
1.5  QUALITY ASSURANCE
  • System supplier: the system shall be a proprietary, patented curtain wall system tested as a complete assembly on a single full-scale specimen, not an assembly of unrelated components.
  • Accredited testing: test reports shall be issued by a laboratory holding ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation recognised in the project territory.
  • Installer: a contractor approved in writing by the system supplier and trained in the system's installation method.
  • Mock-up: provide a visual mock-up for approval of finish, sightline and workmanship before fabrication release, where required by the project.
1.6  WARRANTY
  • Provide the manufacturer's standard system warranty against defects in materials and fabrication.
  • Provide the finish warranty applicable to the specified coating system.
  • Warranty periods shall be confirmed with the system supplier for the specific project.
PART 2 — PRODUCTS
2.1  MANUFACTURER
  • Basis of design: UCS Green System, UCS Green Solutions LLC, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. GCC Patent GC-0011850.
  • Profiles are extruded exclusively for this system by Emirates Extrusion Factory, Dubai.
  • Substitutions: proposed alternatives shall demonstrate, by accredited test reports on a single full-scale specimen, compliance with every performance requirement of Article 1.3, including the repeat air and water tests after structural loading.
2.2  SYSTEM TYPES
  • 4-Way Structural Glazing — four-edge structural bonding; no fastener penetrates the glass.
  • 2-Way Structural Glazing — two-edge structural bonding.
  • Conventional Curtain Wall — pressure-plate system accepting glass, aluminium composite panel, honeycomb panel, stone and marble on a single mullion and transom grid.
  • Strip Windows — banded horizontal window runs integrated with curtain wall on the same elevation.
  • Thermal Break Windows and Doors — polyamide-strip insulated; casement, sliding, pivot, fixed, swing and louvre.
  • Sun Breaker Systems — solar shading integrated into the profile grid without secondary framing.
  • Hand Rail and Balustrade — structurally engineered aluminium railing with glass, cable or solid panel infill.
2.3  MATERIALS
  • Aluminium: extruded aluminium alloy and temper as required to satisfy the structural performance of Article 1.3, confirmed by calculation.
  • Thermal break: polyamide insulating strip, mechanically locked into the profile.
  • Glass: as scheduled by the project. Coordinate glass thickness, make-up and edge treatment with the system supplier before order.
  • Gaskets and seals: extruded elastomeric gaskets compatible with the specified sealants and glazing.
  • Fasteners and anchors: non-corrosive; isolated from dissimilar metals.
  • Finish: powder coat or anodised as scheduled. Powder coating to AAMA 2605 where a superior-durability finish is specified.
2.4  FABRICATION
  • Profiles shall be extruded to exact installation dimensions and delivered directly to site. Cutting, drilling and fabrication of system profiles on site or in a site workshop shall not be required.
  • Drainage channels shall be engineered into the profile geometry. Reliance on applied sealant as the primary drainage or weathering line is not acceptable.
  • Provide for thermal movement, structural movement and construction tolerance without stress on the glass or loss of weather integrity.
PART 3 — EXECUTION
3.1  EXAMINATION
  • Verify that structural openings, slab edges and anchorage substrates are within the tolerances required by the approved shop drawings before installation.
  • Report unacceptable conditions in writing. Do not proceed until they are corrected.
3.2  INSTALLATION
  • The system shall be capable of installation entirely from inside the building, without scaffolding, suspended cradles or climber platforms.
  • Installation may proceed floor by floor concurrently with the concrete structure so that the facade does not sit on the project critical path.
  • Install plumb, level and true to line within the tolerances of the approved shop drawings.
  • Fabrication and installation deviations shall be correctable in place, without replacement orders.
  • Install in accordance with the system supplier's written instructions and under the supplier's technical supervision.
3.3  FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
  • Where required by the project, carry out field water testing to AAMA 501.2 on completed areas.
  • The system supplier shall be given access to inspect the works and to issue a written installation report.
3.4  PROTECTION AND CLEANING
  • Protect finished surfaces from damage and from contact with cementitious materials for the duration of the works.
  • Clean exposed surfaces in accordance with the finish manufacturer's recommendations before handover.
